FASHION ASIDE…LIFE NOTES.

_MG_6851I was asked this question the other day, “What would you say your best traits are?”

No matter who you are, whether you are Beyonce or Ruby, there is something awkward and guilty about looking into someone’s face and telling them why you are the best thing since sliced bread-even when you know you are. No one REALLY wants to toot their own horn because, if done the wrong way, it can be viewed as arrogant or cocky.  You don’t want to be the “Oh, I did this, this and this, and this, this and this” person.  But why NOT?  If there is a wrong way to be this person, there has to be a right way.  Right?

Why can’t we be our own biggest fan? How deep.

From this question, I have revisited the questions that I’ve been asking for such a longtime:

1. Why do we view personal recognition as negative?

2. Why do we need someone else’s approval to validate our own success?

3. Why can’t we be proud of our accomplishments internally AND externally?

And lastly, why are these questions even being questioned?
We are extravagant people who can do extravagant things. Let’s stop dreaming and doubting and let’s start doing! We must take as much pride in ourselves as we do in our favorite football teams; we must take as much pride in ourselves as we do in  Beyonce and Rihanna. It’s time for us to look into ourselves for inspiration and simply be our own cheerleaders.  Let’s be our own trophies; represent who we are and be symbols of greatness.

‘All I can do is be me. Whoever that is.’ -(Famous Bob Dylan Quote)

So, what are my best traits? I am a conceptualist. I am a creative. I am a thinker. I am a leader.  I am an intellectual.  I am a talker. I am a mother. I create true conversation and togetherness  design and fashion. I am a daughter.  I am a writer. I am a communication guru. I am tweeter. I am a loyalist.  I am a woman. I am a black woman. I am a human being. I am a winner.

Who says I am not ALL of those things?  Nobody.

Now let’s put Kanye’s song “Champion” on repeat and take the world by storm.

Here are the lyrics to the song..Thank me later!

 [chorus:]
(Did you realize
That you were a champion?
In their eyes)
Yes I did, so I packed it up and brought it back to the crib
Just a little somethin’ show you how we live
Everybody want it but it ain’t that serious
That’s that shit
So if you’re gonna do it, do it just like this
(Did you realize
That you were a champion?
In their eyes)

You don’t see just how wild the crowd is?
You don’t see just how fly my style is?
I don’t see why I need a stylist
When I shop so much I can speak Italian
I don’t know I just wanted better for my kids
And I ain’t sayin’ we was from the projects
But everytime I want it, layaway or a deposit
My dad’ll say “When you see clothes close your eyelids”
We was sort of like Will Smith and his son
In the movie I ain’t talkin’ ’bout the rich ones
’cause every summer he’ll get some
Brand new hare-brained scheme to get rich from
And I don’t know what he did for dough
But he’d sent me back to school with a new wardrobe and hey!

[chorus]

When it feel like living’s harder than dyin’
For me givin’ up’s way harder than tryin’
Lauryn Hill say her heart was in Zion
I wish her heart still was in rhymin’
’cause who the kids gonna listen to? Huh?
I guess me if it isn’t you
Last week I paid a visit to the institute
They got the Drop Out keepin’ kids in the school
I guess I’ll clean up my act like Prince’ll do
If not for the pleasure, least for the principle
They got the CD then got to see me drop gems
Like I dropped out of P.E.
They used to feel invisible
Now they know they invincible

(Did you realize
That you were a champion?
In their eyes)
This is the story of a champion
Rounders in the mob and they pop the guns
Stand up stand up! Here he comes
Tell me what it takes to be number one?
Tell me what it takes to be number one?
This is the story of a champion
Rounders in the mob and they pop the guns
